OneBox HD is an on-demand media app for the Android platform. Its adaptive designing makes it remote-friendly, allowing full-function support on the remote-controlled devices, such as your Amazon FireStick. In this guide, we will learn to install and use OneBox HD on FireStick and Fire TV devices.
Terrarium TV has shut down permanently. And while there is a workaround in the form of patched/modded APK that lets you continue using the app, it will never get updated with the new content. Therefore, as soon as I heard of Terrarium TV’s departure, I started rounding up the apps that could serve as its most suitable and best alternatives. OneBox HD is one of the first names that rolled across my head.
OneBox HD is a simple, hassle-free and certainly uncomplicated way to stream movies and TV shows. Even though its scraping prowess isn’t as impressive as that of Terrarium TV, its ability to stream high-quality content in just a few clicks makes it a solid entertainment app. Its media library is huge, populated with the most sought-after movie titles and episodes. App’s interface is user-friendly, to say the least. All in all, it is a decent app to try after Terrarium TV.
OneBox HD for FireStick
But, with the apps that need to be installed from an outside source, things aren’t as straightforward. OneBox HD is not an Amazon Store app and hence it will be sideloaded to your FireStick. Here are the prerequisites to install such an app:
Don’t worry! I will make things easier for you even if they look a little tricky.
Enable the Apps from Unknown Sources
Apps from Unknown Sources is a security setting, which is disabled by default to discourage third-party downloads. OneBox HD is safe and so we will turn this setting on by following these steps:
1. Select Settings option on the FireStick home-screen from the menu bar on the top
2. Open Device on the next screen
3. Select and open Developer Options
4. Click the Apps from Unknown Sources to turn it ON if you see it OFF
5. Hit Turn On when prompted
That will do it!
Installation Steps: Onebox HD
I told you that you need an additional side-loading app to install apps like OneBox HD on FireStick. There are two popular apps you can use:
We will now cover the installation steps of the OneBox HD app on FireStick using both these apps one by one.
Method 1: Install OneBox HD on FireStick Using Downloader
After installing Downloader from Amazon Store, open this app and follow the steps below:
Step 1: On the right side of the Downloader app main-screen you should see an empty space to enter the URL (make sure Home tab on the left is selected). Click inside this space
Step 2: Type in the following URL for the OneBox HD APK and click GO:
Step 3: Downloader app will connect to the server in which the OneBox HD APK file is saved and begin to download this file in a few moments
Step 4: The moment the APK download is finished, the Downloader app will quickly run the file and start the installation. Go to the bottom right of this window and click Install
Step 5: Let FireStick install OneBox HD app. When this app is installed, the App Installed message (as you see below) is displayed. When you click Open, you launch the app straight away. But, let’s first click Done
Step 6: By clicking Done you go back to the Downloader app. Here, you see the following prompt.
Click Delete to delete the OneBox HD APK file from the FireStick. Your device storage is very limited and no point keeping the files that are no longer needed.
Step 7: Click Delete again
That’s all! You could now go back to FireStick interface and run OneBox HD app.
How to Use OneBox HD ‘Safely’
Before you start streaming with OneBox HD on your Fire Stick, I would like to warn you that everything you stream on OneBox HD is visible to your ISP and Government. This means, streaming copyrighted content (free movies and TV shows) might get you into legal trouble.
Thankfully, you can hide your online streaming/browsing activities with a VPN. A VPN a.k.a Virtual Private Network helps you bypass ISP throttling, Government Surveillance, and content geo-restrictions.
We do not encourage the violation of the copyright laws. But, what if you end up streaming content from an illegitimate source unintentionally? It is not always easy to tell the difference between a legit and illegal source.
Method 2: Install OneBox HD on Fire Stick Using ES File Explorer
Step 1: On the main-screen of ES File Explorer, there is a menu sidebar on the left. On this menu bar click Tools > Download Manager
Step 2: On the bottom right, you see a bunch of options. Click the first one that says +New
Step 3: On the dialogue box that opens next, enter the following URL in the Path field: bit.ly/onebox1
Type oneboxhd or any other name you like in the Name field. When you are done, click Download Now
Step 4: ES File Explorer will fetch the OneBox HD APK from the server and download it on FireStick
Step 5: When the download finishes, click Open file
Step 6: Next, click Install when the following prompt shows
Step 7: This initiates the installation. Give your final confirmation by clicking Install
Step 8: Now, wait for the App Installed message. To run the app, click Open. To go back to the ES File Explorer app, click Done.
You can navigate to the Download folder in ES File Explorer app and delete the APK file to free up some space.
This is how you install OneBox HD on your FireStick device using the ES File Explorer app.
How to Use OneBox HD on Fire TV Stick
You will find your newly installed app in the Your Apps & Channels segment of FireStick.
When you open the app for the first time, it may tell you that a new version is available. If that’s the case, you must upgrade to the new version to use the app. There is no option to ignore the update. So, click OK. It won’t take too long
Wait for the download to complete. Follow the onscreen instructions to finish the installation (by clicking Install on the next window)
When the following confirmation appears, click Open
The upgrade does not overwrite the existing copy of OneBox HD. Instead, it creates a new copy of the app. That’s the first time I have come across any app doing such a thing.
When you run the new version, it will ask if you wish to remove the old version.
Go ahead and click OK. There is no point in keeping the old version.
You can now access OneBox HD on FireStick. Here is the home screen of the app.
As you see on the top-right, there is a Genres dropdown that lets you filter the content by genre. Next to it is the Search icon that allows you to look up for the content with keywords.
Click the menu button on the top-left corner of the app to switch between movies and TV shows.
That’s pretty much about OneBox HD.
