  • Enhanced Android 15 Support: The app now offers improved compatibility with devices running Android 15, ensuring a smoother user experience.

Previous Updates

In earlier versions, the Downloader app introduced several significant enhancements:

  • Version 1.5.1: Released in August 2024, this update featured a new app icon and logo due to a trademark claim on the previous generic download icon. It also included various behind-the-scenes improvements and bug fixes. 0
  • Version 1.5.0: Launched in May 2024, this update expanded support to Android phones, tablets, and Fire tablets with a new touch-friendly interface. It also added compatibility for Android 13 and 14, along with new features and numerous bug fixes.

About the Downloader App

The Downloader app is a widely-used tool that allows users to easily download files onto their Fire TV, Google TV, Android TV, Android phones, Android tablets, or Fire tablets. Users can enter a URL to a file or website, utilize the built-in Google search, or input a numeric short code generated by the AFTVnews URL Shortener. With over 50 million users, it has become an essential application for many.

Update Availability

The version 1.5.2 update is now available for download on the Google Play Store and Amazon Appstore. Users are encouraged to update to the latest version to benefit from the improved features and fixes.

Best IPTV boxes to buy

These are media boxes and sticks that can run players and licensed apps. The first six are Google certified Android TV or Google TV devices with Google Play. The three Fire TV Sticks run Amazon’s own systems with the Appstore instead of Google Play: the 4K Max and 4K Plus run Fire OS, which is Android based, while the new Fire TV Stick 4K (2026) runs Vega OS, which does not allow sideloading Android apps, only Appstore apps. The last one, the Formuler, runs its own Android and is not certified. They are not pirate hardware. They do not come with channels or playlists. I am not claiming I personally lab-tested every SKU this month.

Pick a Google TV box when you want Play Store apps on a proper TV OS or a dedicated player behind the sofa. Pick a Fire TV Stick when Prime Video and the Appstore already cover what you watch. If you need an Android player from outside the Appstore, skip the Vega OS stick.

Whichever you pick, check that the app you need is in its store before you pay. And none of these boxes or sticks magically make unlicensed streams legal.
