Okay everybody, the internet is losing its mind claiming Amazon has completely killed Android, banned sideloading overnight, and that all Fire Sticks are now dead. I even believed the hype at first. Let’s cut through it and look at what’s actually true.
Amazon never issued a press release saying Android is banned or that you should throw your sticks in the bin. They confirmed they are a multi-OS company and Fire OS is not going anywhere right now.
The panic comes from Amazon’s newer budget devices (like the Fire TV Stick 4K Select) that use their in-house Linux-based Vega OS. Because Vega is not Android, sideloading is locked down on those specific new models. Your existing Fire OS devices (Fire TV Stick 4K Max and older) are still fully supported and still allow sideloading.
Stop listening to the clickbait panic. Your current Android-based Fire Stick is not about to stop working tomorrow.
If you want the open system where you can still sideload apps, stick with your current Fire OS devices for now. Vega OS is a different platform and Amazon is expanding options, not wiping out Android overnight.
