Apple just turned the September rumour mill into a product page. The Apple TV 4K (4th generation) is official, pre-orders are open from 13 October 2026, and stores start stocking it on Friday 13 November 2026 in the US and 29 other countries and regions. The marketing wants a standing ovation for Siri AI. What you need is a sober checklist: what actually changed, who should upgrade, which footnotes will bite you, and what to sort out before November so launch day is boring in the good way.

Everything below that looks like a fact comes from Apple’s 13 October 2026 newsroom release and live Apple shop pages checked the same day. Soft any price that might move after you click through. Trust the live store over this page if they disagree later.

What Apple confirmed (not vibes)

  • Chip: A19, with Apple claiming up to 50% faster CPU and up to 2x GPU versus the previous generation, plus a dedicated AV1 decoder.
  • Siri AI: full-screen search and discovery, conversational follow-ups while you watch, personal context when paired with an Apple Intelligence iPhone or iPad. Launch languages for Siri AI on Apple TV: English in the US, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa and the UK. Available as a beta on Apple TV 4K (2nd generation or later) with tvOS 27.2.
  • Far-field mics: three microphones on the box for hands-free “Hey Siri” or “Siri”. Supported when the primary tvOS language is Mandarin Chinese, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Hebrew, Norwegian or Swedish.
  • Remote: new Siri Remote adds Find My with Precision Finding and play-a-sound. Precision Finding needs a recent iPhone (Apple lists iPhone Duo, iPhone Air, or iPhone 17 or later, excluding iPhone 17e) and varies by region. Play sound is exclusive to the newest remote.
  • Four-speaker surround: first time Apple TV 4K supports four HomePod mini 2 or four HomePod (2nd generation) speakers in matching front and rear pairs. Speakers sold separately, of course.
  • Home hub: Thread, HomeKit Secure Video with Apple Intelligence camera descriptions (needs compatible iPhone/iPad setup and eligible iCloud+), scenes and remote control.
  • Privacy claim: Secure Exclaves process microphone data separately; Apple says that data cannot be accessed by tvOS, apps, the user or Apple.

Verified prices (checked 13 Oct 2026)

Single SKU pricing from Apple shop pages. HDMI and USB-C cables are still sold separately on the UK page, because Apple enjoys that bit of theatre.

  • US: $299, or $49.83/month for six months via Apple Card Monthly Installments (US-only, credit approval required).
  • UK: £299 (apple.com/uk/shop/buy-tv/apple-tv-4k).
  • Germany, France, Italy, Spain: €349.
  • Australia: A$449.
  • Canada: C$429 (store shows $429 on the CA shop).
  • UAE: AED 1,199.
  • India: ₹39,900.

Buy links for the new box should go through Apple’s store, not mystery Amazon ASINs invented before third-party listings settle. Prices above were live when checked; they can change.

Siri AI region traps (read the footnotes)

Apple’s small print is doing the heavy lifting again:

  • Siri AI launch English countries: US, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, UK.
  • EU delay on phones/tablets: Apple explicitly says Siri AI will not be initially available in the EU on iOS or iPadOS. Apple TV Siri AI also needs the home owner to have an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad with Siri AI on and set to a supported language. If your phone stuck in the EU queue cannot turn Siri AI on, do not expect the living-room box to magic it into existence on day one.
  • Beta + older boxes: Siri AI beta lands on Apple TV 4K 2nd gen or later with tvOS 27.2. You do not need the 4th gen hardware just to try the assistant.
  • Usage limits: certain server-side Apple Intelligence features have daily usage limits; Apple says expanded access will be available for a fee later. Plan for a meter, not an infinite oracle.
  • Far-field mic languages: even if Siri AI content search is English-first at launch, far-field mic wake works when the primary tvOS language is one of the nine listed above. French or German TV language can still shout at the mics; the AI feature map is a separate spreadsheet.

Who should upgrade vs keep the 3rd gen

  • Keep the 3rd gen (or even 2nd gen) if: you mainly want Siri AI. Apple is putting the beta on those boxes too. Paying £299 / $299 for a chat overlay you already get is how marketing departments retire early.
  • Upgrade if: you want the on-box far-field mics, the A19 responsiveness claim, dedicated AV1 decode, Wi-Fi 7 era networking that Apple is putting in this SKU, Find My Precision Finding on the new remote, or the four-HomePod surround layout that Apple says is exclusive to 4th gen.
  • Pause if: your TV HDMI handshake is already flaky, your Wi-Fi is a microwave museum, or you were about to buy four HomePods “because the keynote said immersive” without checking the matching-pair rule and the bill.

Dated get-ready checklist

  • Today (13 Oct 2026), pre-order window open: Decide upgrade vs wait. Confirm your country is in the US+29 list. Open the local Apple shop buy page and check live price, delivery estimate and whether Apple Store pickup is offered for your postcode. Update Apple ID payment and shipping. If you want ACMI in the US, confirm credit eligibility before you romanticise $49.83.
  • This week while pre-orders are open: Inventory your HDMI cable. Apple still sells HDMI separately; a tired 1.4 lead will not invent Dolby Vision for you. Note your TV’s HDR modes (Dolby Vision / HDR10+ / plain HDR10). Check Ethernet vs Wi-Fi: if the box will sit behind a thick wall, plan a cable now, not on 13 November while the remote plays hide and seek.
  • Before Friday 13 November: Update the Home app home-owner iPhone or iPad toward Apple Intelligence + Siri AI if you are in a launch-language country. EU buyers: lower expectations for day-one Siri AI on the phone that the TV depends on. If you want four-speaker surround, price four matching HomePod mini 2 or four HomePod (2nd gen) pairs honestly; front and rear pairs must match. Review mic privacy comfort: Secure Exclaves are Apple’s answer, but always-listening hardware is still always-listening hardware. Decide whether to leave far-field Siri off until you trust the setup.
  • Day of (13 November): Pickup or delivery. Connect power and HDMI. Run the TV calibration prompts. Pair the remote in Find My if your iPhone qualifies for Precision Finding. Test a 4K HDR title and an AV1-capable stream if your apps offer one. Only then stage the HomePod choir.
  • Black Friday reality check: mid-November launches love colliding with late-November sales chatter. I am not inventing a discount. If you can wait and you do not need the new mics or four-speaker layout on day one, watching street price after 13 November is a rational adult move, not a conspiracy.

Traps Apple will not put on the hero slide

  • HomePod cost stacking. Four speakers, matching pairs, sold separately. The $299 / £299 box is the ticket; the surround bill is the afterparty.
  • EU Siri AI phone dependency. Footnote says Siri AI will not be initially available in the EU on iOS/iPadOS. Home-owner setup requires that stack. Do not buy the box expecting a European day-one AI party the phone cannot host.
  • Precision Finding phone gate. Older iPhones get “play a sound” on the new remote (exclusive to newest remote) and broader Find My on 2nd-gen remotes or later; Precision Finding is pickier about which iPhone you own.
  • Mic always-on anxiety. Apple’s Secure Exclaves pitch is strong on paper. If that still creeps you out, leave far-field listening disabled until you have read the privacy sheet twice.
  • HDMI and HDR readiness. A 4K TV that only half-supports Dolby Vision will not be fixed by a prettier Apple logo on the shelf.
  • Pre-order vs wait. Pre-order if you want day-one stock certainty. Wait if you are upgrade-curious and discount-curious. Neither path requires a forum prophecy.

If the Apple TV bill is climbing toward HomePod theatre territory and you still want a certified Google TV or Android TV player for apps and licensed streams on a second set, these are the living-room boxes I keep pointing people at. They are not Apple TV substitutes. They are the Play Store route when that is what you need:

Best IPTV boxes to buy

These are certified Android TV / Google TV media boxes and sticks that can run players and licensed apps from Google Play. They are not pirate hardware. They do not come with channels or playlists. I am not claiming I personally lab-tested every SKU this month.

Buy one of these when: Fire TV sideload is a hassle on your model, you want Play Store apps on a proper TV OS, or you want a dedicated player shell behind the sofa. No Fire TV device is on this shortlist.

Still shopping for a Fire TV device? Fine for Prime Video and the Appstore universe. Not the shortlist above. And none of these boxes magically make unlicensed streams legal.
