The second living room is where UK TV packages go to die. Main set gets the shiny hub. Spare room gets the dusty YouView box, a hope that Multiroom still exists, and a teenager who just wants Netflix without a lecture. In 2026 the TalkTalk answer to that room has changed enough that “keep the old Multiroom” and “buy another TalkTalk box” are no longer the same sentence.
Here is the second-room reality check for TalkTalk TV and YouView, verified against TalkTalk’s own help pages and TV Hub materials, not against nostalgia.
Practical second-room setups that do not fight TalkTalk
- Hub in lounge + NOW multiscreen on a bedroom smart TV or tablet — matches TalkTalk’s current pitch; good when the second screen is flexible. No Multiroom twin.
- Hub in lounge + certified Google TV stick/box in spare room — same Netflix/Disney+/iPlayer logins, plus Freely on a Freely-capable TV/streamer if you need the live grid; no dependence on Multiroom.
- Keep Multiroom YouView until both rooms move together — sensible if recordings and dual live habits still define the house. Do not Hub-upgrade until room-two plan exists (upgrade can kill Multiroom).

What a second living room actually needs in 2026
Most spare rooms want three things: live public-service TV or a decent guide, the household’s paid apps signed in, and enough Wi-Fi that 4K does not collapse when someone upstairs joins a call.
- If you still have working Multiroom YouView boxes: keep them until a Hub upgrade is worth more than the second-room loss. Do not casually “upgrade for apps” without a plan for room two.
- If you are on the TV Hub already: do not expect TalkTalk to hand you a second Hub under old Multiroom rules. Use NOW multiscreen where your membership covers it, plus apps on a smart TV or a small certified Google TV / Android TV player.
- If the spare TV is dumb or ancient: a cheap licensed player (see the Amazon shortlist below) plus Freely where the device is Freely-partnered, or Freeview via aerial if the loft feed still works, is usually cheaper than hunting a discontinued Multiroom add-on.
What TalkTalk sells now
TalkTalk TV for existing broadband customers centres on the TalkTalk TV Hub (Android TV / Google Play world): live channels, on-demand players, 7-day guide behaviour, pause and rewind measured in tens of minutes rather than a huge HDD, 4K where content and TV allow, voice via Google Assistant, Chromecast built-in, and access to a large Google Play catalogue. TalkTalk’s consumer pages have advertised TalkTalk TV from about £5 a month for eligible existing customers (mid-Sep 2026 snapshot — re-check TalkTalk checkout; not a forever price).
Older kit still in the wild includes TalkTalk TV 4K boxes and legacy YouView / TalkTalk TV Plus boxes (DN370T / DN372T and friends). Feature tables on TalkTalk’s compare page still matter if you have not upgraded: some older boxes keep longer pause buffers and proper recording storage; the Hub leans on on-demand and apps instead of a classic planner full of scheduled recordings.
Multiroom is legacy. Multiscreen is the new story.
TalkTalk’s Multiroom help article is blunt. They have moved from offering Multiroom to a multiscreen approach built around NOW membership. With NOW via TalkTalk, customers get NOW Boost included (TalkTalk has stated Boost is normally £5 a month elsewhere — re-check TalkTalk/NOW pages). Content is no longer tied only to a second TalkTalk box in the house.
Existing Multiroom customers on TalkTalk TV or TalkTalk TV Plus boxes can keep using the extra box. Upgrade the TV box later and TalkTalk says the additional Multiroom box and Multiroom service end. That is the trap for anyone planning a Hub upgrade while still depending on a YouView brick in the spare room.
The TV Hub guide’s own FAQ line is equally clear: there is not a Multiroom option available for the Hub yet. Second-room TalkTalk-identical boxes are not the 2026 default product. Skip Multiroom nostalgia shopping.
YouView’s remaining strengths (and why they still matter)
Legacy YouView Plus boxes earned loyalty with recording capacity and longer pause/rewind. Households that treat the spare room as a catch-up bunker still prefer that behaviour to “find it in the player tomorrow”. The Hub’s Google Play width, 4K path and casting are the upgrade case for the main room, not automatically for room two.
Also remember aerial reality: free-to-air on older TalkTalk boxes often assumes an aerial feed, and legacy Multiroom quirks (including Boost channel limits when two boxes watch the same Boost channel) still apply on that path.
Wi-Fi still decides whether any second-room setup feels premium. A second-room 4K stream is a mesh placement problem as often as a TV-platform problem.
Is TalkTalk TV / YouView still worth a second living room?
As a Multiroom twin of the main box: only if you already have Multiroom and have not upgraded away from it. As a 2026 product strategy: TalkTalk wants you in Hub-plus-apps-plus-NOW multiscreen territory, not a second YouView on the sideboard.
Worth it when TalkTalk broadband plus the Hub’s app shelf already matches what the household watches, and room two can live on multiscreen or a cheap licensed player. Not worth stretching if the only reason you stayed was dual-box Multiroom recordings and you are about to accept a Hub upgrade that kills the spare box.
