Short answer: NVIDIA just put the Shield TV Pro on a diet of your wallet. From about 2 October 2026 the official US shop shows $299 (was $199.99), the tube-shaped standard Shield is dead, and Amazon's Prime Big Deal Days land on 6-7 October. That is your window to decide: hunt leftover stock at the old shelf price, pay the new MSRP if you truly need Shield features, or pick a cheaper Google TV box while the event is live. Do not assume Amazon will put the Shield itself on a PBDD discount. Check the live price.
I have watched NVIDIA treat the Shield like a passion project for years. Passion projects, it turns out, still get invoices for DRAM. If you were vaguely planning to buy one “soon”, soon just got a calendar reminder with a shopping-cart icon on it.
What changed on 2 October
Three facts, not three marketing slides:
- New US MSRP: NVIDIA's own US Shield page lists SHIELD TV Pro at $299, with $399 CAD shown alongside. That matches the company's statement that the new price started 2 October.
- Tube Shield gone: NVIDIA has stopped producing the standard (tube) Shield TV. The Pro is the only model still in production.
- NVIDIA's line on why: a company spokesperson told outlets including Ars Technica and TechPowerUp that “the cost of components, including memory, has increased substantially across the industry,” and that production is focused on the Pro. Coverage also ties the hike to the wider AI-driven component squeeze, which is a polite way of saying the same company that sells the GPUs powering that squeeze is now charging more for a 2019 living-room box.
Hardware itself is unchanged: Tegra X1+, 3 GB RAM, 16 GB storage, Dolby Vision / Atmos, AI upscaling, GeForce NOW, and Plex Media Server on the Pro. No new chip. No new storage. Just a new number on the price tag.
On the UK NVIDIA shop (nvidia.com/en-gb/shield) I could not find a clear GBP MSRP when I checked, so I am not inventing a sterling figure. HDTVTest ballparked $299 as “around £225”; treat that as a rough conversion, not an official UK list price. In Germany, PCGamesHardware reported the German NVIDIA shop listing the Pro at €329 (and unavailable).

Prime Big Deal Days shopping window
Amazon's own announcements for the UK, US and EU put the event on the same two calendar days (Amazon adds that dates may vary by country), but the start clocks differ. Put your local alarm on the row that matches you:
| Region | Window | Source clock |
|---|---|---|
| United Kingdom | 6 Oct 00:01 to 7 Oct 23:59 | BST (Amazon UK) |
| United States | From 6 Oct 00:01 through 7 Oct | PDT (Amazon US press) |
| EU (Amazon EU stores) | From 6 Oct 00:01 | CET (About Amazon EU) |
| Gulf / India (approx) | Roughly mid-morning to late evening local on 6-7 Oct if you map from BST/CET | Approximate only: use your local Amazon store clock |
| Australia (approx) | Evening of 6 Oct into 8 Oct local if mapping from PDT/CET | Approximate: AU is in Amazon's 22-country list; check amazon.com.au live |
Prime membership is required for the exclusive deals. Set price alerts on the exact ASIN you want before 6 October. And again: nothing in Amazon's PBDD copy promises a Shield cut.
Who should still buy at $299 / €329
This is a niche box at a niche price. Buy (or hunt old-price stock) only if several of these are true:
- You need Plex Media Server on the box itself, not just a Plex client.
- You care about broad codec / local playback and AI upscaling more than a shiny 2026 SoC brochure.
- You use GeForce NOW or local game streaming (Moonlight-style workflows) and already know Shield's latency story.
- You want Ethernet plus two USB ports in a small Android TV living-room box, and you have lived with Shield's UI quirks before.
- You are replacing a dead Shield and refuse to relearn a different remote ecosystem this week.
If that list sounds like you, $299 / reported €329 is annoying but coherent as “last production unit of a cult streamer.” If that list sounds like a museum brochure, keep scrolling.
Who should skip
- Netflix / Disney+ / YouTube-only shoppers. A Google TV Streamer, Xiaomi stick/box, or Strong LEAP-NOVA will do the licensed-app job for less.
- Anyone who needs the newest Android TV / Google TV platform features. Shield's software story is long support on older Android TV foundations, so do not overclaim “latest security” either way; check update notes yourself before you pay premium prices for peace of mind.
- Bargain hunters waiting for a guaranteed PBDD Shield slash. There is no such guarantee. Waiting only for hope is how you pay $299 and still miss a Xiaomi deal.
- People confusing tube and Pro listings. The tube is discontinued. A “cheap Shield” third-party listing may be used, open-box, or the wrong SKU.
Stock and price traps
- Out of stock is normal. HDTVTest and Ars both noted thin or OOS stock around the hike; NVIDIA's store has been flaky for months. A “notify me” button is not a purchase.
- Old shelf price vs new MSRP. How-To Geek noted not every retailer had flipped to the new price immediately. Leftover cart prices below $299 may still exist: verify the seller, condition, and that you are buying Pro, not a tube listing in Pro clothing.
- MSRP ≠ street price. Amazon, Best Buy and local shops can sit above or below NVIDIA's number. Screenshots age in minutes during a deal event.
- Marketplace condition games. “New” from a random seller, imports without the right plug, and refurbished units all show up when official stock is tight. Read the fulfilment line twice.
- Currency theatre. US $299 is verified on NVIDIA's US shop. CAD $399 is shown there too. €329 is a reported German NVIDIA shop figure. UK GBP list price is not clearly posted on the UK NVIDIA page. Check Amazon UK live rather than trusting a blogger's FX maths (including mine).
Alternatives worth checking during PBDD
If you mainly want a legal player shell for licensed apps and your own media library apps from Google Play, these are the sensible compare-at boxes while alerts fire on 6-7 October:
- Google TV Streamer 4K: US list rose from $99.99 to $149.99 around 31 August 2026 (9to5Google). Still usually cheaper than Shield; Ethernet on the Streamer class hardware. Check live Amazon prices in your store.
- Xiaomi TV Box S (3rd Gen) / Xiaomi TV Stick 4K (2nd Gen): Google TV routes when you want Play Store apps without NVIDIA money.
- Strong LEAP-NOVA: certified Google TV stick option for a second room.
Shopping Amazon's own Fire Stick aisle this week? Fine for Prime Video. If you care about sideloading and player flexibility, read my guide on how to tell Vega OS from Fire OS before you pay. I am not rehashing that Fire cluster here, and this shortlist stays on certified Android TV / Google TV hardware.
Multi-country price snapshot (verified bits only)
| Market | What I could verify | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| United States | NVIDIA shop $299 for SHIELD TV Pro | Also shows $399 CAD on the US page. Amazon street price: check live. |
| Canada | $399 CAD shown on NVIDIA US Shield shop | Confirm on your local retailer before buying. |
| Germany | German NVIDIA shop reported at €329 (PCGamesHardware); stock called unavailable | Report, not my live cart scrape. |
| United Kingdom | No clear GBP MSRP on nvidia.com/en-gb/shield when checked | Use Amazon UK live price; do not treat ~£225 conversions as official. |
| France / Italy / other EU | PBDD runs on Amazon's EU stores from 00:01 CET 6 Oct | Shield euro street prices: check local Amazon live. |
I am not pasting stale Amazon street prices into this table. Open the links in the box list below and believe the number on your screen, not a screenshot from Sunday afternoon.
After you buy checklist
- Confirm the SKU. Pro (square) vs discontinued tube. Serial and model on the box beat a marketplace title.
- Update before you load your life onto it. Settings → Device Preferences → About → System update (wording can vary by build). Do not assume you are on the newest build just because the box is “new in sealed plastic.”
- Ethernet if you can. Shield's party trick is less charming on congested Wi-Fi when you are pushing local media or game streams.
- Install only what you need from Google Play / official stores. Player apps for content you are licensed to watch. No playlist treasure maps from strangers in comment sections.
- Keep the receipt and return window. If a unit arrives DOA or the seller bait-and-switched condition, the calendar matters more than the NVIDIA logo.
- Price-track for a week anyway. If a true PBDD cut appears after you buy, Amazon's usual policies may help, but read the current adjustment rules for your store rather than assuming a blogger's memory of 2024.
Best IPTV boxes to buy
Think of these as certified Android TV / Google TV shells for player apps and licensed catalogues from Google Play (not pirate appliances, not secret channel packs, and not something that arrives with someone else's playlist already loaded). I rotate the shortlist; I am not pretending I personally stress-tested every regional SKU this weekend.
Reach for one when you want a proper TV OS with Play Store access, a dedicated box or stick behind the sofa, or a Shield-class upgrade path that is not Fire OS / Vega. No Fire Stick belongs on this list.
- NVIDIA SHIELD TV Pro: the premium pick, a certified Android TV player with AI upscaling, Dolby Vision/Atmos and Gigabit Ethernet for the main living-room telly. Amazon UK | Amazon US | Amazon DE | Amazon FR | Amazon IT
- Google TV Streamer 4K: solid Google TV living-room default with Ethernet, 32GB storage and Dolby Vision/Atmos. Amazon UK | Amazon US | Amazon DE | Amazon FR | Amazon IT
- Xiaomi TV Box S (3rd Gen): Google TV box with 32GB storage, Wi-Fi 6 and Dolby Vision/Atmos, the cheaper box route than the Streamer. Amazon UK | Amazon US | Amazon DE | Amazon FR | Amazon IT
- Xiaomi TV Stick 4K (2nd Gen): budget Google TV stick with Wi-Fi 6 and Dolby Vision/Atmos when you want HDMI-simple, not a full box. Amazon UK | Amazon US | Amazon DE | Amazon FR | Amazon IT
- Strong LEAP-NOVA: Google TV certified 4K stick on Android 14 with 32GB storage, Wi-Fi 6 and Dolby Vision, for a second telly. Amazon DE | Amazon FR | Amazon IT
- MECOOL MEon1: Google TV certified 4K box with AI upscaling and 32GB storage for a dedicated player behind the sofa. Amazon UK
Fire Stick shoppers: enjoy Prime Video. That aisle is a different product family. And none of these devices make unlicensed streams legal: they play what you are allowed to play.
A quick note on prices
Prices and stock move during Prime Big Deal Days. I checked these figures on 4 October 2026 (BST): NVIDIA US shop $299 / $399 CAD; UK NVIDIA page with no clear GBP MSRP; German shop €329 as reported by PCGamesHardware; PBDD windows from Amazon UK / US / EU announcements. Check the live Amazon listing before you buy. Nothing here claims PBDD discounts the Shield.
