How to Convert Your Router to 5G (or 6G) for USA Broadband Providers

Converting to 5G or 6G & Enabling Split Wi-Fi

After logging into your router, follow these instructions to enable a dual-band network:

  • Select the Wireless Band:Locate settings such as Wireless Mode, Frequency, or Band. Many routers allow you to switch from a unified network to a split network where 2.4GHz and 5GHz (or 6GHz) operate independently.
  • Enable 5G or 6G:If your router supports it, options for 5GHz and, on some newer models, 6GHz will be available. Choose the desired band(s) for your network. Routers supporting Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) often provide enhanced performance over older models.
  • Configure Separate SSIDs:Assign distinct names to each network (for example, “HomeWiFi-2.4GHz” and “HomeWiFi-5GHz”) so you can easily choose which network your devices should connect to.
  • Save and Apply Changes:After making your adjustments, save your settings. Your router might restart to apply the new configuration.

Keep in mind that the exact location and wording of these settings can vary by router model and firmware version. If you’re uncertain, consult your router’s manual or your ISP’s support site.
