How to Split 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi Bands on Your Plusnet Router

If you're using a Plusnet Hub One or Hub Two, this simple guide will show you how to separate your Wi-Fi bands for better control over your home network.

Why Split Your Wi-Fi Bands?

Most Plusnet routers combine 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks by default. Splitting them lets you:

  • Choose the best band for each device
  • Improve connection stability
  • Reduce interference between devices

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Access Your Router Settings

Open your web browser and type:

192.168.1.1

Or

192.168.1.254

in the address bar, then press Enter.

2. Log In

Use these default credentials (found on your router's label):

  • Username: admin
  • Password: your router password

3. Find Wireless Settings

Navigate to:

  • Hub One: Advanced Settings → Wireless
  • Hub Two: Settings → Wireless

4. Split the Networks

Look for ā€œSmart Setupā€ or ā€œCombined SSIDā€ and:

  1. Disable this feature
  2. Create separate names for:
    • 2.4GHz network
    • 5GHz network

5. Save Changes

Click ā€œApplyā€ and wait 2 minutes for the router to restart. Reconnect your devices to the preferred network.

Pro Tips

  • šŸ’” Use the same password for both networks
  • šŸ“± Connect mobile devices to 5GHz
  • šŸ  Use 2.4GHz for devices far from the router
